dimitris makes it at envases

At Envases in Horst, everything revolves around continuity, quality and safety. Every day, metal packaging is produced here for the food industry. These products eventually end up in supermarkets all across Europe. In an environment where multiple production lines run at the same time, committed employees are essential. One of them is Dimitris Drampidis. Dimitris has been working at Envases since August 2013. What started as his first job in the Netherlands has grown into a role with a great deal of responsibility. “At the beginning, I never thought I would stay here this long,” Dimitris says. “But now I truly feel at home here.”

From a new start to a permanent position
Dimitris originally comes from Greece. Through an employment agency, he came into contact with Envases. After some time, he received a permanent contract. “That felt really good. It gave me confidence and peace of mind.” He started as a production operator, where he learned the basics of the job. Over the years, he gradually progressed within the company. “Now I am responsible for all production lines. I focus on safety, quality and the entire process. I step in wherever I am needed.”

No two days are the same
What Dimitris enjoys most about his job is the variety. “Every day is different. Something new always happens.” At Envases, different types of cans are produced depending on customer orders. This requires constant coordination. “We receive an order, adjust the settings, run tests and, once everything is correct, we start production. After that, we continuously check everything per line and per shift. From A to Z.” Solving problems is part of the job as well. “When there is a major issue and we manage to solve it, that really makes me happy. That gives me a lot of satisfaction.”

Together you achieve more
Although the work takes place in a production environment, Dimitris explains that it is not physically demanding. “You mainly work with your mind rather than your body, and I like that.” He also describes the atmosphere at Envases as positive and open. “If you have an idea, people really listen to you. That way, you gain better insights.” Dimitris himself is often present on the shop floor. “I talk to my colleagues a lot and ask how things are going. We always try to make the best of it together.”

Working together based on trust
Technology is developing rapidly and Envases continues to keep up. “I have followed many training courses. Things change fast, so you have to keep developing yourself.” His own growth is a good example of that. “I started as an operator. After a few years, I was given more responsibility and allowed to work independently on the lines.” By now, Dimitris knows about 90 percent of the entire production process. “Over the years, I have been given a lot of responsibility. That trust feels really good.”

Growth starts with asking questions
Envases is continuously looking for new colleagues. According to Dimitris, you do not need to know everything from the start. “You can learn a lot here. The most important things are being able to listen well, having patience and an interest in technology.” Because Envases operates within the food industry, safety and quality are crucial. “We work according to strict rules, but new employees are guided well. We make sure everyone feels welcome.” His advice is clear. “Always ask questions. That is a good thing.”

Experience it yourself at Envases
During the 'Dag van de Maakindustrie' on Sunday, March 22, Envases in Horst will open its doors to visitors. “We want to run one or two production lines and show how the process works.” Visitors can take part in guided tours. “It is really interesting to see.” The day will be combined with a family event. “There will be a food truck, and visitors will receive a nice goodie. That part will remain a surprise,” he says with a smile. Will you be there on Sunday, March 22?
